  2. #myrightfoot surgery – a storyboard

After walking with a damaged right ankle for about six months, I finally had surgery on 26 January.

What with everything happening in my life – busy work season (one of my clients is the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon), the kids having just started a new school year (including Da Son starting at a brand new school) – I considered moving the surgery until May. But in the end, I found myself booked in at Constantiaberg Mediclinic at 6am last Monday.

It turned out to be a very difficult two days, and I am still struggling with pain management and the frustration of being immobile. But I don’t want to bore you with the details. Instead, here’s a summary of my surgery…

    This story’s getting a little old now…

January: overhydrate & collapse at Ironman 70.3 and wake up in the medical tent.
January – March: walk around with my ankle hanging on the floor. An MRI diagnoses a non-existent peroneal tendon.
April: Peroneal tendon reconstruction & repair surgery.
May & June: Foot in the air, in a leg cast.
July – September: Intense rehab to get back on track, in order to join the rest of my training team in preparation for IM70.3 in 2014.

That was my year so far. Then I resigned from my job to start up my own freelance business and focus on my family. I had clients lined up and they were all eagerly waiting for me to work out my notice period so that I could blind them with my awesomeness from October…

300 Days Of Training

My Instagram

Another run in the bag. #fnbrunyourcity #ct12run
It's @dynamomagician Part 2 at @grandwestsa for @fazielahwilliams and I and today we are joined by @kraykrisofficial & @heidimeetsworld a.k.a @capetownkidz. Excited to share the #Dynamolive magic with the kids. First up: feeding the hungry teenagers at @spursteakranches.
What an incredible show!!! Nothing excessively flashy (well... apart from that awesome {spoiler alert})... Just good old fashioned quality #magic that deserved its standing ovation. @dynamomagician showed #lovecapetown why he is one of the best in the industry. I can't wait to see him in action again tomorrow, with junior magicians @kraykrisofficial and @heidimeetsworld in tow. Thanks to my Wyrd Sis @fazielahwilliams for having me tag along as your plus one.
WhoHOOOO... Got my programme. Got @kraykrisofficial's favourite deck of cards to have signed later. Super amped for the @dynamomagician show tonight with Wyrd Sis @fazielahwilliams.
Way back in 2013 I had the first of a series of ankle injuries that led to two surgeries, looooong periods of rehab, re-injury, more rehab, and finally being told I shouldn't run again due to an unfortunate little condition called #hypermobility. However... I don't like being told what I can and can't do. And, quite frankly, #knitting isn't my thing, although it was a nice way to stay busy back then. So here I am, running again. The right #runningshoes help me with the extra stability I need to not roll my ankles. And I'm loving every bit of this journey from #couchtomarathon. #flashbackfriday #running #marathon #marathontraining
How awesome is this @capetown_12 racepack collection venue!! You get to see fishies and everything.
Just some basic strength exercises can improve your function and movement within as little as three weeks!! I'm learning so much at the @sportscience_sa #SSISAWomensWellness workshop.
Excited to learn more about running as a woman at the @sportscience_sa #SSISAWomensWellness workshop, how to get stronger and stay injury free. So happy that my Wyrd Sis @fazielahwilliams is here. This makes me really amped to boost my @nycmarathon training.
When you want to nap, but also want to be close to your mom. @ladygillydoggie knows exactly how to get what she wants
